Qeshmi language

Hormozgan Province is a microcosm of the linguistic diversity found throughout Iran, with a number of languages and many constituent dialects found in the province. Qeshmi dialect is one of the original Persian dialects that is commonly used in Qeshm Island. This language is probably The survival of Sassanid Pahlavi or a language from the Iranian Middle Ages.

Qeshmi dialect and Middle Persian Similarities

According to the documents obtained from the Iranian languages and their analysis, the Iranian languages are divided in terms of the structure of the language and its degree of transformation into three periods of: ancient, middle and new. Each of the ancient Iranian, Middle, and new languages has several dialects, only one of which has been recognized as the official language of government of its time. From the ancient Iranian languages, the Ancient Persian, the Persian dialect of the Southwest, was considered the official language of the Achaemenid Empire, The kings of this family were used. In the Middle Iranian, in the period of the Parthians, the Pahlavi language was recognized as the Parthian (Pahlavian) language. Then, during the reign of the Sasanians, the Sassanid Pahlavi dialect (Parsic language) came from the Persian-speaking southwest dialects.

Native Qeshm people

In the new era, dari Persian language became the official language of many dialects. With the advent of the Dari Persian dialect, other dialects gradually lost their significance. The lack of attention to the dialects and the lack of sufficient written works of these dialects have made the relationship between the Middle Persian language and other dialects still unclear so that it can not be verified that a surviving dialect is the Middle Persian language. Fortunately, few works in the Sassanid Pahlavi language – such as Zanda Avesta, Dinkard, Bundshan, Ardaviraff letter, Iatkar Zariran, Asurik tree – etc., are comparable in terms of their structure and their vocabulary with other dialects, which can be partly shared by them. Qeshmi dialect is compared to Middle Persian in terms of verb and structure.
